Spring has Sprung!

Happy Springtime, everyone! Come on in to the shop for some good ole Wisconsin-style frozen custard (but not on Tuesdays, because we’re closed).  As always, we’ll have Vanilla and Chocolate flavors every day, accompanied by a delicious and often holiday-appropriate Flavor of the Day. Click the “Flavor Forcast” link on the left to see just what’s coming up so you know when the time is ripe for you to pounce! Or just stop by and taste it. That works pretty well too.

New this year is Pop Culture!  We’ll be having a wide assortment of these exotic, made-right-here ice pops available all the time for those that want a break from the Turtle Sundae or small Vanilla cake cone they always get.  Some have dairy, some don’t; some are fruity, some creamy, some flowery, but all are delectable! Right now, as I’m typing (3/31), we have Chocolate-Covered Pretzel, Lemon Basil, Kiwi-Mango, Apple Cider, Lychee Green Tea, Mango Sticky Rice, Blackberry, and Rosehip-Hibiscus.  Flavors change as they get eaten, so come in soon if you see something you like because the next batch is sure to be something new and different!

This year is the Capitol’s 99th annual Cherry Blossom Festival, a celebration of Tokyo’s gift of 3000 blooming cherry trees to Washington DC. As part of the celebratios we’ll be having Cherry Blossom flavor custard over the weekend, along with the Lychee Green Tea and Mango Sticky Rice pops in a nod to the many Eastern visitors we’ll have in the region during the Festival.  Check out the Festival’s web page at www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org for more info.

In case you didn’t know, we at theDairy Godmother just love our dogs. It’s too bad we can’t have them in the shop, because if we could they’d be here all the time!  To make up for it we bring home some crunchy whole wheat and barley Squirrel snacks and plenty of frozen Puppy Pops to help them cool off after a hot day of chasing the real squirrels.  Did you know our Puppy Pops are made of yummy yogurt, peanut butter, and fruit? And that many of them are made by students at St. Coletta’s school (www.stcoletta.org)? AND that some proceeds from Puppy Pop sales go to the PAL organization (www.peopleanimalslove.org) of therapy animals?  Well, now you do!

In case you were wondering, we’ll be closed on Easter Sunday the 24th, as well as Monday the 25th and Tuesday the 26th so we can spend some time with our families.  Accordingly, we’ll have the Easter Bunny’s favorite flavor, Carrot Cake, on the 20th and 21st. (Liz is thinking about hopping up to New York to see Lombardi on Broadway that weekend, too. Go Pack!)

Also coming up this month is Earth Day, but instead of the 22nd, we’ll be having our annual tree-hugging Cruchy Granola flavor on the 30th, to raise the fun quotient for Alexandria City’s own local Earth Day, which you can plan for at www.alexearthday.org!
