Earth Day Tips from the Godmother, 04/21/20071. Save your spoon! If you need to taste a flavor, use your tasting spoon to eat your treat. This is the reason we don't give you one of those tiny spoons, which are assuredly thrown away. (And when we watch you throw away 2 spoons, ask for a cup, and then take another spoon, it's all we can do not to pop over the counter and tackle you).2. Recycle the Sprecher bottles on the window ledge looking into the kitchen. 3. Order a cone instead of a cup, if you can. We are amazed at how this reduces the amount of trash in the summer. 4. Take as many napkins as you need but please use what you take. 5. Don't forget re-use is way better than re-cycle. We are trying to do our part and have recently switched to pressurized, reusable, stainless steel whipped cream canisters. The dairy takes away the empties and cleans and refills them. We're told some of the canisters are over 30 years old. 6. Don't let life be about your belongings. Consume less. Happy Earth Day! I love to see someone local taking an interest in our planet. Be the change you want to see in the world. If you can't sleep at night knowing none of the plastic spoons will ever leave the earth, then stop giving them away! There is a better disposable and biodegradable option made from materials like cornstarch. These spoons may melt in very hot foods but are perfect for cold custard. I don't order a cone in the summer because the cone is so small and the scoop is generous. By the time i'm outside the custard is melting down my arm. Please start offering the cups that are made from waffle cones. This way I could contain my custard and still eat my cup! If you can't find a supplier for the biodegradeable spoons I will gladly help you locate one, just send me an e-mail. There are also biodegradable options available for your milkshake cups.
